This is what my factory Goodyear Eagle LS2's look like after 36,000 miles. I can’t believe I was driving on these like this all winter. I just thought tires should be good for 50,000 miles so they should be fine since I plan on changing them before the next winter season (~40,000 miles)

I knew full well that I was gonna change my tires this season regardless of their current tread depth but I was honestly shocked when I saw how much was actually left. I’ve been essentially driving around on Rolling pins.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m gonna try and stretch these out for another 3,000 miles (till September) then I’m putting on a brand new set of Nokian WRG3 All weather tires.

dont think of it as driving around on rolling pins, think of it as having more rubber in contact with the road...........(yeah they are on their way out) SHOULD be able to pull out that last 14k though, and get your monies worth.

if you live anywhere that gets rain, you might want to think about replacing them now. hydroplaning is not fun.

One has not lived until you’ve hydroplaned at highway speed in a car known for Torque steer. Adds new meaning, to steering with the go pedal.

Those are down to the wear bars, I’d say they are done now.

Might have been run a bit overinflated, too.

I’m gonna get them quoted and see from there. It’s pretty dry where I’m from so rain shouldn’t be a huge deal but I will be replacing these this summer sometime.

I wouldn’t try and get another 6 months out of those. Those tires are done , it is time for new ones now.

Yeah, these are dunzo (as the kids like to say). At least you got even wear out of them. 36k from a 50k-rate tire is better than I've ever done. The really scary stuff is when you have a wee bit of negative camber (and/or too much toe-in) and the middle and outer part of the tire look fine, but the inside shoulder has metal showing. Been there, done that. Don't mess around with tires.

yeah,yeah............ yeah.................. i can still see the center shadow of the center wearbar.

i guess i just like to get ALL the good out of the things i pay for.

if you’re scared of it, replace it. youll FEEL better at least. and thats what matters.

That’s what the tires on my Outback look like, with about 25,000 miles on them. I’m going to try to squeek through this summer but if I get any fully bald spots I’ll be springing for some new treads.

I wish, just bought new tire$$$ for the Camaro and I haven’t even hit 11k.

I experienced it a couple of times in my Mustang thanks to the shitty P Zero Nero tires it came with from the factory. probably still had 8,000 miles left on them but at that point the outer tread blocks closed off and they couldn’t evacuate water very well.

I seem to recall a larger publication did a test comparing worn tires with new tires, and the worn tires performed better in dry conditions. Wet conditions were a different story...

i have some tires, and they consistently wear out the outer outside edge of the fronts..... 3500 lb truck, street tires, awd.. whats your opinion there?

Kinja'd!!! crowmolly > Die-Trying
04/19/2016 at 10:49

Kinja'd!!!1

When was the last time you had an alignment? If the outside shoulder of the tire is wearing unevenly your camber may be out of spec.

its a solid front axle, always locked in awd truck set up.. tracks straight going down the road, let go of the wheel and no worries for as far as comfortable.

Man, that’s kind of out of my comfort zone then.

If your camber is in fact bonkers you can get some shims to adjust it with a solid axle, but I’m not 100% sure. Is the wear really bad? Like you burn through tires quick?

they dont burn quick..... but its more of a pronounced wear. full disclosure is that i drive it pretty hard around corners(bites hard always holds the corner), and it MIGHT just be the tires letting me know thats all they got, what with the truck weighing so much.

SAY, thanks for the feedback, didnt mean to put you on the spot. its REAL nice to hear a fresh perspective.

Yea, 376hp to the rear with 20" asymmetrical extreme performance summer tires that see autocross/track/DD use... At least I knew what I was getting myself into and watched tirerack for closeouts before I needed to replace them!

The ‘ol SC400 was my beater/drifter and it went through a lot of rubber. That plus the rear alignment never being right since it was previously rekt, means I made a lot of tires look like that.

Probably because tires are expensive, and some people don’t fear death. The one I don’t get is the guy who only has 15/20 lug nuts. He’s got one broken stud, but getting some replacement lug nuts for the other four would be really cheap.

Good idea to watch tirerack for closeouts. Mine is only a pathetic claimed 349hp and 391 ft.lbs. with 275/35R18 on the back. Puts me right around $800-1000 for a full set of decent tires with my work discount.
